As health care costs continue to rise, it’s no surprise that health savings accounts (HSA) continue to rapidly grow and evolve. According to the Devenir Research report, 2017 Midyear HSA Market Statistics & Trends , released on Aug. 16, 2017, there are more than 21 million accounts in the U.S. holding about $42.7 billion in assets. In fact, from June 30, 2016 to June 30, 2017, the number of accounts grew by 16 percent.

| Blue Shield of California Offers Assistance to Members Displaced by Wildfires in California |
Blue Shield of California is closely monitoring conditions caused by wildfires in Tulare, Trinity, Mariposa and Madera counties. The company has taken the following actions to help ensure continuity of care for affected members:
-Our pharmacy team is allowing for the immediate refill of prescriptions, even if they are not yet due to be refilled. -We are conducting outreach to affected members who currently participate in a care management program. -Magellan Health, Blue Shield’s contracted managed care plan for behavioral health, is providing free access to resources, materials and counseling services through its 24-hour, toll-free hotline: 1-800-327-7451.
