WellSpan Health announces appointment of new Senior Vice President and General Counsel

WellSpan Health has named Amy Nelson as senior vice president and general counsel for the health system, effective April 2, 2021.

Nelson is currently the vice president and deputy general counsel for WellSpan Health and has been with the organization since 2004.

“Amy has been a key figure on our legal team, providing strategic counsel as WellSpan has experienced rapid growth over the past decade,” said Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., president and CEO of WellSpan Health. “We are excited for Amy to lead our legal team as we continue our efforts to reimagine healthcare in southcentral Pennsylvania.”

In her new role, Nelson will be responsible for complex legal, regulatory and compliance counsel while supporting the health system in meeting strategic, operational and fiduciary responsibilities. She will play an integral role in the evaluation of quality and safety matters as well as mitigation of risks. She also supports the governance function of the WellSpan Board of Directors.

“An important aspect of my work is partnering with leaders at WellSpan and I’m excited to expand those collaborative efforts to serve the health system in strategic ways,” said Nelson. “I’m honored to be able to play a meaningful role in WellSpan’s journey to operating as an integrated system of care.”

Prior to joining WellSpan, Nelson was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of State where she served as Counsel for the State Board of Medicine and the State Board of Osteopathic Medicine. Her legal career began at Stock and Leader, P.C. in York.

Nelson will succeed current senior vice president and general counsel Glen Moffett, who announced his planned retirement earlier this year. He will assist in the transition of duties to Nelson over the coming months.
