Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

DANVILLE, Pa. – David K. Vawdrey, Ph.D., a biomedical informatics executive, has been named Geisinger’s Chief Data Informatics Officer. In his role, Dr. Vawdrey will be responsible for implementing transformational technologies and bringing value to Geisinger by harmonizing data across the clinical care, research and health plan enterprise.

Previously of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University, Dr. Vawdrey joins Geisinger with more than a decade of experience developing and evaluating innovative clinical information systems interventions that have benefited clinicians and patients across the country. Dr. Vawdrey has been on the faculty of Columbia University’s Department of Biomedical Informatics since 2007. He was the founding director of NewYork-Presbyterian’s Value Institute, which he grew from a small team of data science and health services researchers into a 200-plus-member team responsible for enterprise analytics, quality measurement, and electronic health record integration.

Dr. Vawdrey is a national speaker and author on data analytics and informatics. His federally and privately funded research has resulted in more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Vawdrey is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and a Master’s in computer science. He completed his Ph.D. in biomedical informatics at the University of Utah.
