BATON ROUGE — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana has appointed Sue Kozik as senior vice president (SVP) and chief information officer (CIO), effective Aug. 6. As a member of the company’s Senior Management Team, Kozik will oversee the Information Technology (IT) and Information Security departments and the Project Management Office (PMO).

“Holding these key roles is a challenge that Sue is well prepared to meet. She has more than 30 years of experience in the IT field and has been honored by the IT industry with many prestigious awards,” said Blue Cross Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Bryan Camerlinck, to whom Kozik will report.

“Sue is recognized for strong leadership, technology experience, change and risk management skills, customer experience initiatives and business process improvement,” Camerlinck said. “We are delighted to welcome such a talented, experienced and well-respected executive to our company.”

Kozik has led major technology and business transformation programs in healthcare, telecommunications, energy and financial services. She comes to Blue Cross from Group Health, a Seattle-based, $4 billion nonprofit integrated healthcare delivery system that recently became a part of Kaiser Permanente. There, as executive vice president and CIO, she had enterprise-wide responsibility for IT operations, applications and strategy.

She takes on a similar role at Blue Cross, leading the company’s IT strategy, overseeing its PMO, IT testing and quality assurance and the IT security practices that mitigate risks to Blue Cross’ corporate systems.

Prior to Group Health, Kozik held executive positions at Independence Blue Cross, Direct Energy, TIAA CREF, Lucent Technologies, Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company and CIGNA. For a number of her CIO roles, Kozik was the first leader in the company to hold that executive position, bringing technology to the conversation and to the board level.

Kozik graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and was a member of the college’s board of trustees for 15 years. She served on numerous committees there and chaired the Admissions and Financial Aid Committee for four years. Since 2012, she has been a member of the board of directors at Tech Impact, and she has worked with a number of technology startups and advisory boards. She was profiled in Dan Roberts and Brian Watson’s 2016 book Confessions of a Successful CIO – the Conversation Continues.
