Mark Farrah Associates (MFA), a leading provider of market data and intelligence solutions, observed a significant shift in health insurers' revenues from commercial to government sources between 2006 and 2011. In a recent analysis of health plan data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), MFA found comprehensive commercial coverage as a percentage of total revenues has fallen from 59% in 2006 to 47% in 2011. Managed Medicare products now account for 22% of health plan total revenues, up from 16% in 2006. Revenue from state Medicaid programs also grew as a percentage of total revenues from 10% in 2006 to 16% in 2011. ... |
