Discern Consulting was founded in early 2004 to provide business consulting services to health care organizations. To date, client projects have included:
- National implementation of a value-based purchasing program;
- Development of quality standards for consumer-directed health organizations;
- Development of business models for new products and service offerings;
- Project management (including management of broad-based committee structures)
- Content development for health care education.
Guy D’Andrea, the founder of Discern, has worked in health care policy and quality standards for over 12 years. For seven years, Mr. D’Andrea led product development and government affairs for URAC, a private accreditation organization. Prior to joining URAC, he held positions in health care policy and legislation at the American Association of Health Plans (now AHIP), the American Managed Care and Review Association, and the Maryland Association of HMOs. Mr. D’Andrea is a frequent speaker on the topic of health care quality and oversight, and has authored numerous articles on accreditation and compliance issues. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and earned dual Masters of Business Administration degrees from Columbia University and the London Business School, where he graduated as the valedictorian of his program.
